Today is Monday, April 14th, 2008; Karen's Korner #1291

While Jacob and Jaynie Michael, missionaries from Mozambique, Africa, stayed with us for parts of six days, I asked both of them to write a couple of Karen's Korner devotionals to share with all readers. Jacob wrote two; Jaynie wrote one.

Here is Jacob's second one. They left for Ohio, their home base, a week ago today and will be in the United States until late in August, doing what they were doing in Clarion, visiting supporting churches each week/weekend:

Why do we have problems? Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. (Problems) But take heart! I have overcome the world.

God allows problems to come into our lives for five basic reasons.

  1. To Correct us!   1 Corinthians 1:5-12
  2. To Inspect us!  John 6:5,6; Acts 5:9;
  3. To Perfect us!  Matthew 5:48; 2 Corinthians 12:9; James 1:3; Philippians 3:12-15
  4. To Direct us!  Acts 16:6-10
  5. To Protect us!  Genesis 50: 20; Romans 8:28
1 Corinthians 10:13:   Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.

James 1:2-4:   Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Hebrews 12: 2-3:  “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

Remember it’s not the strongest wind nor the wildest gale that directs the ship,

 but the set of the sail.
