Sweet little baby girl with those bright eyes open so wide struggling to take in everything around her.
Beautiful eyes close once again as she sleeps peacefully.
There will be plenty of time for looking.
And my eyes will watch her experience it all now and throughout this life that she will own.
Lips too tiny now will soon enough speak those silly quirky things that all girls say.
These little lips will laugh and smile, pout and frown all the while as she makes her way into my heart.
Her tiny feet no larger than my thumb are now too small for shoes.
But oh the parade of shoes she will have.
Shoes for her first steps.
Shoes for running and jumping, and as her cousin once said “church shoes”.
Maybe even ballet shoes or volleyball shoes and then heels for her first dance.
But for now her closet is quiet and empty just as it should be awaiting all the memories to come.
As I hold her in my arms like her lightly wrapped blanket my love surrounds her.
I feel the love of Jesus as he surrounds us this very moment.
I am assured he will surround us with his love forever.
Jesus once again you have given me one more thing
to pray about and with each day, one more joyous prayer of thanksgiving.
