Today is Wednesday, November 6th, 2013; Karen's Korner #2688

There are many translations of the Bible available to us today; while the words may differ, the meaning remains the same.

Take Psalm 1119: 105 for instance. Here is the NIV edition:

"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."

We know that a candle light flickering in a cave, while small, still lights up the entire area and can allow entrants to see and move around.

Bad/evil is sometimes depicted as darkness; good as light.

Commentary on this verse:  A walk in the woods at night makes it obvious that a light is necessary to prevent one from tripping over tree roots or falling in holes. In this life, we walk through a dark forest of evil in a world that has turned its back on God. But the Bible can be our light to show us the way ahead so we won't stumble as we walk. It reveals the entangling roots of false values and philosophies. By reading the Bible, it helps us to see our way clearly enough to stay on the right path.

"Your words are a flashlight to light the path ahead of me, and keep me from stumbling."

The above translation is from the Living Bible; different words, same meaning.

Our job is to be God's Light in an every darkening world; our world. No matter if the light we shine is a small light or one much larger. That light shines and the shadows fall behind us!

Dear Lord, help us to remember that as Your Children, Your Light is a part of each of our lives. May we let it shine on the lives of those around us today! In Jesus' Name. Amen.
