Today is Wednesday, August 13th, 2014; Karen's Korner #2878

Juan Salas, a 2014 Clarion-Goldfield graduate, had a dream and vision of building a 9-hole disc golf course on our high school grounds as part of his Senior Life Project. All C-G seniors are required to do a community service project as part of their senior English class.

As he leaves for college today, Juan has either completed the construction work or has plans under way for its completion by others. The course includes start launch pads for each hole with baskets several hundred feet down each fairway to catch launched discs (aka as fresbies to non-disc golf players).

I got involved, not with the construction but with the funding of the work, pointing Juan different directions in our community, looking for money to make his plan become a reality.

But I spent some time trying to figure out how the 4'- plus tall, chained, catch baskets would standup while the ten-inch wide by two-foot deep concrete-filled hole, waiting for the cement to harden.

No worries. A slender pipe is placed in each hole with an inch or two of metal protruding above the cement. When the gooey mixture is dry, the catch basket slides inside the metal tube and the two metal pieces are padlocked into place for lots of fun play, by especially young people, who are now enjoying the sport.

Seems there were engineers who designed how the process should work and directions for anyone who was going to be building such a course. Good idea! Too hard for each novice to figure out on his/her own.

Same could be said for us and our lives. Too hard to figure out our daily construction or for us to know what we should be doing or how we should be living on our own. We need an Instruction Manual (aka Holy Bible) as a guide to help and to give us direction to know how to handle life's situation. We need a plan and God gave us one!

Dear Father in Heaven, thank You for giving us instruction and direction. We can't figure life out - past, present, and future - and how things fit together. Thank You for having an overall plan for each of us. Thank You for Your undying Love and Care. Once again today, we need your help! Thanks for never leaving us nor forsaking us. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
