Today is Tuesday, April 19th, 2016; Karen's Korner #3292

As our calendar turns to May, we think of celebrating mothers on Mothers' Day. Proverbs 31, beginning at verse 10 and to the end of chapter, tells about 'a truly good wife' (could be woman!).

"She finds wool and flax and busily spins it." (v.13)

Our Marys & Marthas has a handful of women who make quilts, afghans, prayer shawls, blankets through "Warm Thought" blankets and "Knit Wits" and they give to babies, people or families in crisis, or just to let them know we care. I deliver several every month. Never stitched a one of them. Many of our 'makers' go unnoticed.

"She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household......plans the day's work...........she is an energetic, a hard worker, and watches for bargains. She works far into the night." (v. 15 - 18)

How many wives and moms juggle the day, getting kids ready for school, maybe getting them off to day care, works hard both at home and at the work place. They need to be appreciate. We need to thank God for the tasks He has given us to do and for the energy to do them. And ask Him to help us!

"She is a woman of strength and dignity, and has no fear of old age." (v. 25)

How many people (women) do we know who continue to do wonderful things, even in their advancing age? If God brings someone to your mind today, take the opportunity to tell them 'thank you'.

"Her children stand and bless her, so does her husband." (v. 28)

This past weekend, Iowa Mothers Association held their annual meeting. Among other things, they picked 'Iowa's Mother of the Year for 2016'. Barbara Wittmer who lives on a dairy farm near Vinton. In her bio, it states, 'in 1980 her youngest son Ed was killed in a farm accident. This led her and her husband Warren to take their first foster child in 1982." Since that time, they have had more than 75 children as part of their family.

"Charm can be deceptive and beauty doesn't last, but a woman who fears and reverences God shall be greatly praised. Praise her for the many fine things she does. These good deeds of hers shall bring her honor and recognition from people of importance.' (v. 30 & 31)

A couple of comments on these verses include 'it may surprise us to realize that her appearance is never mentioned. Her attractiveness comes entirely from her character'. Also it states, 'the person mentioned in these verses may not be one person but may be a composite portrait of ideal womanhood'.

Congratulations, gals, take a bow today! You have one (or more than one) of these traits. God wants to remind you who you are! And if He wants you to remind someone else today who they are....email them, call them, tell them.....TODAY!!
