Today is Tuesday, May 9th, 2006; Karen's Korner #797

This is a poem written by Elaine Bergen; it was entered in this year's Iowa Mothers' writing contest. It won its category and was entered in the national contest. I like it when people try their hand at writing what is in their hearts and minds.

I saved it for Mother's Day week to share with others:

                                    Mother's Hands
                                    By Elaine Bergan

                                    Mother's hands joined Dad's
                                    When wed long years ago.
Their love brought children to their lives
To nurture and love, as all parents know.

                                    Mom's hands were busy
                                    Caring for daily needs
As children grew from babes to teens,
Grateful for every child who succeeds.

                                    The years passed swiftly;
The children now grown and married
                                    Mom's hands became grandmother's hands
                                    Enjoying babies once more carried.

                                    Mother's hands folded
In prayer each morn and night
Placing family in God's loving care
Seeking guidance for them to do right.

                                    Hands, so worn and tired
                                    Now longing for a rest,
Soon death will come as Heaven beckons,
Faithfully trusting God for what's best.

                                    Mother's hands lie still
As life on earth is o'er.
But prayers for family still ascend
To the altar beyond Heaven's door.
