Today is Saturday, July 19th, 2008; Karen's Korner #1360

(Filling in on Saturday for the day I missed for camp on Tuesday!)

The debate rages over who created the world, when, and how. Probably will continue as long as there is a world.

Remember the story from your childhood world history lessons of Christopher Columbus going to the King and Queen of Spain and explaining to them his theory of how the world might be round, not flat? Pretty radical thinking of the time!

I wonder if Columbus got some of his thoughts from the Bible?

"He (God) sits enthroned above the circle of the earth......." (Isaiah 40:22)?

I wonder what people before some of Columbus' voyages thought that Bible verse meant?

I wonder how many more things are written in the Bible which are as true as the 'circle of the earth', but seem to be impossible or untrue to us today?

Later verses (28 - 31) on that same chapter of Isaiah have some remarkable encouragement for us:

"The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.

He gives strength to the weary,
and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
