Today is Friday, October 3rd, 2008; Karen's Korner #1415
Our one apple tree has been loaded with apples this fall, as have most apple trees this year. When we first started picking them shortly after Labor Day, we had to pull them off the tree. Sometimes a couple of leaves near the apple would come along with the maturing fruit.
Not any more! Last week, we picked the last bags and boxes of the apples. They were literally trying to fall off the tree into my hand and sometimes they would fall to the ground without anyone touching them.
It brought to mind this Bible verse: "The harvest is so great, and the workers are so few," Jesus told his disciples. "So pray to the one in charge of the harvesting, and ask him to recruit more workers for his harvest fields." - Matthew 9:37,38 Living Bible
The commentary about those verses: "Jesus looked at the crowds following him and referred to them as a field ripe for harvest Many people are ready to give their lives to Christ if someone will show them the way. Jesus commands us to pray that people will respond to this need for workers. Often, when we pray for something, God answers our prayers by using us. Be prepared for God to use you to show another person the way to him."
Since we couldn't use any more apples and after picking lots of bags of apples for others, the remainder of the apples are now falling off the tree onto the ground. When the process is over, next week we will go out and pick up the rotting apples.
From ripe, valuable fruit to rotting, worthless fruit in a matter of a few weeks!
Father God, we pray for more workers to harvest more people for Your Kingdom; help each one of us to do the tasks which You have assigned us to do. We want to take more of our friends and family with us into Your Future Kingdom. We love how You care for us and the plans You have for all of Your Children. We need Your help to do Your Will. In the Name of Your Son, Amen.
