Today is Thursday, December 3rd, 2009; Karen's Korner #1709

Something shared by Shirley Choat, at Christmas time:

"When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears, and rescures them from all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:17-18

      Preparing for Christmas is a happy time, but what if we're feeling a little sad at this time of year? What if we're missing someone who is not with us, does that mean there is something wrong with our faith? Not at all. No holiday stirs up more feelings, memories, and emotions than Christmas, and many of our strongest feelings have to do with loved ones in our family and among our friends. Memories and emotions remind us of what is important, and sometimes we are reminded that we are missing someone we love very much.
     God draws near to us in our sadness, the Scripture says. Just as we turn to God in gratitude when we are happy, so can we turn to God in our sadness. We can rely on God's presence within us to provide the strength and consolation we need.
     Such brokenness attracts God. If you think yourself in the dark and deserted, it is not so. God is there; call on Him. Even a whisper will bring a response, especailly if it comes from a broken heart.

**

God wants to bind the broken heart
And wipe each teardrop dry;
He'll calm and soothe the troubled soul
Who looks to God on high.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
'Broken things can become blessed things if you let Christ do the mending.'
