Today is Tuesday, August 31st, 2010; Karen's Korner #1897

Around the south and west sides of our house, we have an overhang and underneath are white rocks, edged with bricks. There is black plastic under the rocks and I have a handful of pots with blooming plants in each one.

Even with the plastic, now and then a weed sprouts through the rocks. Several times each summer I take my trusty squeeze bottle and 'Round Up' any weeds that I see.

Several days ago I noticed two marigolds poking their heads through the rocks. They are probably a couple of inches tall.

As I looked at them, I thought, "There has to be a message here."

I didn't plant them. They shouldn't be able to sprout, grow, or thrive.

They are in the 'wrong' place and are probably technically 'weeds'. But I can't pull them out. I want to let them grow. Will they bloom before frost of fall comes? I don't know.

Tell me what is the message to you? Growing in spite of adversity?

I have some thoughts. What are yours!??
