(Back after a week away!)
Something written and forwarded to me by Shirley Choat, several years ago:
"Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you that God should raise the dead?"
~ Acts 26:8
During His public ministry, as far as we know, Jesus raised three people from the dead. They were the daughter of Jairus, the youth at Nain, and Lazarus. Great men of God also have occasionally raised people from the dead by the power of God; the prophet Elijah was one. Unbelievers both within and without the visible Christian Church have taken issue with these miracles and denied them. Either they brand the Scriptual accounts as fables, or they try to explain away the miracle by saying that probably the person in question was not really dead. To all of them God says: "Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you that God should raise the dead?"
As Christians, we rejoice in the hope of our resurrection. The knowledge of it takes the sting out of death for us. "O Death, where is thy sting? O Grave, where is thy victory?" We shall rise to the glorious life with God and the angels in heaven. There God will "wipe away all tears from our eyes"
Up from the grave He arose
With a mighty triumph o'er His foes;
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever with His saints to reign:
He arose, He arose, Hallelujah! Christ arose!
"Our LORD has written the promise of the resurrection, not only in the Bible but in every leaf of springtime."
