Today is Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011; Karen's Korner #2197

Anyone who was alive on November 22, 1963 remembers where they were when we heard the news that President Kennedy had been shot in Dallas. Hard to believe it was 48 years ago today.

Taken from "In God We Still Trust", a 365-day devotional by Dr. Richard G. Lee:

Watchmen on the Walls

"And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"
~ Luke 2:14

"Below are the unforgettable words President John F. Kennedy was to deliver in a luncheon on November 22, 1963, the day he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas:

'We in this country, in this generation are, by destiny rather than choice,
the watchmen on the walls of the world freedom.
We ask, therefore, that we may be worthy of our power
and responsibility, that we may exercise our strength
with wisdom and restraint,
and that we may achieve in our time
and for all time the ancient vision of 'peace on earth, good will toward men.'
That must always be our goal.
For as was written long ago,
'Except the LORD keep the city the
watchman waketh but in vain.' (Psalm 127:1 KJV)

**
Patriot's Prayer:
"Freedom is such a blessing, O Lord.
Help us watch over it and keep it not only for this moment,
but for the generations to come.
Let freedom ring in our hearts forever
and ever as a blessing to people everywhere."

**

Patriot's Promise:
"Second Kings 9:17 speaks of a watchman standing on the tower
looking for any potential threats.
Seeing John and his vast army coming,
the watchman called out, 'I see troops coming' (NIV).
When we stand as a watchman looking to protect our freedom,
God will reveal to us any threat against it."
