Today is Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013; Karen's Korner #2493

A daily devotional sent to me several weeks ago by Cindy Schubert. The narrative was pretty popular as a 'pass-along' awhile ago. Maybe you have read it before; maybe not:

"Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must be patient as you wait for the
coming of the Lord. Consider the farmer who waits patiently for the coming of
rain in the fall and spring, looking forward to the precious fruit of the earth. You
also must wait patiently, strengthening your resolve, because the coming of the Lord is near.

"Don't complain about each other, brothers and sisters, so that you won't be judged.
Look! The judge is standing at the door!
Brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord as an
example of patient resolve and steadfastness. Look at how we honor those who have
practiced endurance. You have heard of the endurance of Job. And you have seen what
the Lord has accomplished, for the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

"Most important, my brothers and sisters, never make a solemn pledge--neither by
heaven nor earth, nor by anything else. Instead, speak with a simple, 'Yes' or 'No,'
or else you may fall under judgment."

~ James 5:7-12 (CEB)

A story about impatience:

Two boats met head-on in a shipping channel at night. Boat 1 flashed Boat 2: "We  are on a collision course. Turn your boat 10 degrees north."

Boat 2 signaled back: "Yes, we are on a collision course. Turn your boat 10 degrees south."

Boat 1 signaled again: "I am an admiral in Her Majesty's Navy; I am telling you to turn your craft 10 degrees north."

Boat 2 flashed back immediately: "And I am a seaman 2nd class, and I am telling you to turn your boat 10 degrees south."

By this time the admiral, losing his patience, furiously signaled back: "I repeat! I am an admiral in Her Majesty's Navy and I command you to turn 10 degrees north. I am in a battleship!"
And the second boat returned a signal that said: "And I am commanding you to turn your boat 10 degrees south. I am in a lighthouse."

Lord, deliver me from impatience that clouds my seeing.
Grant to me the heart of  the farmer,
waiting patiently for the precious crop from the earth.
Amen.
