Today is Monday, November 11th, 2013; Karen's Korner #2691
Happy Veterans Day!
Earlier this year, a Karen's Korner recapped a question posed to some college students, asking them some of the 'wrongs' done over the course of history by America. The responding students had a lengthy list of responses. When asked what past Americans/our country had done 'right' in that same time period. They could think of nothing.
At that time, I asked Karen's Korner readers for their thoughts on 'good/right' things. I piled them up but did nothing with them.
Veterans Day today seemed like a good day to share them (without names of responders). Soldiers past and present have helped the United States stay 'the land of the free and the home of the brave", and we thank them for it
* Many men and women in the military have given their lives to make sure that we can live free and independent lives. And they have set free a number of people who live in other countries around the world (i.e. two World Wars). "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.". - John 15:13
* That anyone can wonder about what we do, look at the Peace Corps. What about the amount of millions/billions sent to multitudes of countries each year and the amount of aid sent to countries in devastation. Consider people who work in Haiti to try to help bring it back from devastations. It is appalling that any young person in this nation cannot believe whole heartedly in the goodness of this country and it's people. Maybe it's time to set our kids down to TV and watch some programs which carry the 'good news' being done every day.
* The Methodist churches participate in the 'Nets for Life' program by collecting funds and sending it to this program. It has given out over 11 million nets to over 27 million people. NetsforLife® empowers communities to fight malaria by raising awareness on malaria, providing life-saving training, and distributing insecticide-treated mosquito nets to people in Africa. Until I researched this further, I had no idea how big this program is.
* The help that Americans provided for Haiti was mind boggling too. Lots of medical supplies, doctors, nurses and contractors. When a disaster hits, it seems like there are always Americans in and among the midst of things.
* Our country has always had as its foundation, the Holy Bible and what it has done to impact our daily lives. A portion of Leviticus 25:10 is inscripted on the Liberty Bell.
* From two gals who were not born in the United States; one currently lives here and one lives in her native country: "No other country in the world is as generous as the American people." Neither of these women knew anything about how generous people are until they either moved here or became more involved in things associated with the United States.
* "Do people know how 'God' and His words are threaded through our nation's entire history? Our government documents? Postings in government buildings? And that Congress still opens its meetings with prayer? As do many other government agencies?"
* "Our country was founded on God and His Biblical principals. And it has worked for more than 200 years. Our country has been quite successful. And we want to improve on that............without Him?"
* The blessings of advanced medical research and health we experience in the USA, as compared to other countries.
* I know you have previously stated how generous our country is. Without God’s blessing of prosperity we wouldn’t be able to be so generous.
