Ever heard anyone say, "He's (she) so heavenly-minded, he's no earthly good!" ?

You fill in the blanks of what that person might be saying or doing to get the 'title'.

The other day I got started thinking about, "He's (she) so earthly-minded, he's not heavenly good!"

Could it happen to us when we are asking God for things, not according to what HE has in mind? His plans? For our best? For our world?

I think it happened to Jesus' disciples, when they started to learn that maybe Jesus wasn't going to be the earthly king like they thought. He started to tell them about His death. How was that going to work into their earthly plans?

"From then on Jesus began to speak plainly to his disciples about going to Jerusalem, and what would happen to him there--that he would suffer at the hands of the Jewish leaders, that he would be killed, and that three days later he would be raised to life again."

~ Matthew 16:21 LAB

*

Bible Commentary:  "Jesus' new emphasis was on his death and resurrection. Still, the disciples didn't grasp Jesus' true purpose because of their preconceived notions about what the Messiah should be. This was the first time Jesus predicted his death."

Forgive us, Father God, when we want something different from your plans. Plans which are far greater than we can hope or imagine!
