Taken from I Peter with the heading "Living building stones for God's house":

"But you are not like that, for you have been chosen by God himself---you are priests of the King, you are holy and pure, you are God's very own---all this so that you may show to others how God called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light. Once you were less than nothing; now you are God's own. Once you knew very little of God's kindness; now your very lives have been changed by it."

Bible Commentary:  "People often base their self-concept on their accomplishments, but who we are in Christ is far more important than our jobs, our successes, our wealth, or our knowledge. We have been chosen by God as His very own, and we have been called to represent Him to others. Remember that your value comes from being one of God's children, not from what you can achieve. You have worth because of what God does, not because of what you do."
