Today is Monday, May 29th, 2006; Karen's Korner #811

This is the day that we celebrate Memorial Day. We remember friends and loved ones who have gone on ahead of us. We salute soldiers and veterans for surrendering a portion of their lives, or giving their lives, to defend us and our country.

This is a portion of a quote in an editorial, published in a newspaper on Friday. It was taken from a new book written by former Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger and presidential speechwriter Wynon C. Hall titled, "Home of the Brave:  Honoring the Unsung Heroes in the War on Terror":

"Every morning, in cities all across the world, 2.4 million Americans wake up, put on a uniform, kiss their loved ones goodbye, and head out the door to defend freedom. In exchange, they ask for nothing:  not wealth, not power, not celebrity.......To them, protecting America is a privilege, an honor, a solemn duty that has been passed like a torch from their parents and grandparents before them.

"As First Sergeant Justin LeHew told us, "It' all the crosses in Arlington Cemetery. It's all those GIs who died over there with my dad on Omaha Beach. You want your generation to do America justice like that one did....."

Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for people who live, fight, and maybe die to defend and protect our freedoms. Bless them, Father. May they bless you with their thoughts, words, and deeds. Help us not to take these people for granted. Help me not to take You and Your blessings to all of us for granted. May my thoughts and actions today, be a blessing to You and to our soldiers, past and present. Help me not to forget. In Your Son's Name, Amen.
